Jeff Olney was born in Boone, IA in 1956. He started playing pool and snooker in the early 70s. In 1978 he joined the Navy and was stationed in San Diego, CA. From 1978 to 1991 Jeff competed against San Diegos finest players, including Morro and the late Jay Swanson. Throughout the same time period Jeff collected cues from some of the worlds greatest cue makers. Jeff could always tell a high quality cue and knew they would be very valuable in the future. Jeff collected cues like Szamboti, Black, Schrager, Tad, Gina, Spain, Scruggs, early Schon cues and many others. Jeff always wanted to make his own cues, his number one priority would be the playability of the cue. Jeff felt a solid joint combined with a medium stiff shaft are the two main factors of a great playing cue. In 1992 Jeff started making cues full time. He works many hours a week to keep his local orders under a one year wait. Three top players from Nebraska use Jeffs cues, but most of his cues never leave his home state. He sells cues to many Iowa league players and friends. Jeff rarely has time to play pool any more but still loves the game and the competition. Jeff did compete in the 1995 Iowa and Midwest Open taking first in both tournaments.
