Ewa Mataya Laurance in Billiard Wholesale Directory

 

Ewa Mataya Laurance is one of the most well-known and recognizable stars in the history of pocket billiards. A past winner of multiple World Championships, including the sports biggest prizes, the WPA World 9-Ball Championship, as well as Americas most prestigious prizes, the US Open 9-Ball title (twice), and the WPBA National 9-Ball Championship. Ewa is in elite company, one of only a handful of players to win all of the sports major titles. Ewa started playing pocket billiards in her native town of Gavle, Sweden, at the age of 14. In 1981, at the age of 17, she won the European Championship in Bern, Switzerland. Later that same year she was asked to represent Europe at the World Championships in New York City and, at that point, made the decision to make the United States her home. Since then, Ewa has not only been successfully competing on the Womens Professional Tour, but has become widely recognized as the international ambassador for the sport, promoting pocket billiards world wide. Ewa has appeared on numerous television shows, including Live with Regis and Kathie Lee, Late Night with David Letterman, The Today Show, and Dennis Miller. Ewa was featured in a cover article in the prestigious New York Times Magazine, as well as in a number of articles in other magazines, such as People, Sports Illustrated, and Glamour Magazine. She has also starred in national commercials for Brunswick Billiards and No Nonsense Pantyhose. In 2001, Ewa also appeared in Playboy Magazine and playboy.com. Ewa is a two-time Player of the Year, a recipient of the WPBA Sportsperson of the Year award, BBIA Industry Service Award, and has served as the President of the The Womens Professional Billiard Association. She writes a monthly column for Pool & Billiard Magazine, is the author of two books, The Ewa Mataya Pool Guide and The Complete Idiots Guide to Pool and Billiards. Besides playing on the WPBA Tour, Ewa spends a great deal of the year performing shows and trickshot exhibitions across the U.S. and around the world. Ewa is sponsored on Tour by Brunswick Billiards, and is their only Professional Player Representative. She currently resides in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with her husband Mitch and daughter Nikki.
